About the Dutch Business Club

Meet Our Board Members

Our board members are business owners, freelancers, artists, and coworkers of the Dutch Consulate in Vancouver. They volunteer their time to organize events for the Dutch business community.

We currently have positions available in our board and welcome you to apply if you are interested. We are also looking for volunteers who can help us during our events. Volunteer work can easily be combined with your current job and does not require much time.

Juul Heijblom | President

Juul Heijblom

Juul Heijblom was born in The Netherlands in a town called Bavel next to Breda and has a degree in Aircraft Engineering. Together with his wife and two children they have lived in Brazil for 5 year before they moved to Canada, Vancouver in December 2017.

Juul works for Heli-One a global MRO company within the helicopter industry and is responsible for the Customer Support for the Western Hemisphere. He joined Heli-One in 2005 after working with Schreiner for 5 year.

Besides exploring the outdoors in beautiful British Colombia in winter and summer he likes to put together a nice meal, spend time with his family or reading a book.

Tj (Tjerk) Weidema | Director of Events

TJ Weidema

TJ was born in Delft and moved to Canada in 1998 with his Canadian wife and two children. With a degree in sport management he opened his own sport club in the Netherlands and later became a general manager for a large chain of clubs. Having to start all over again in Canada, he is now General Manager Canada for RU Theatre.

In his spare time, TJ has been on many boards in the Netherlands as well as in Canada for several associations. He has a passion for active life styles, healthy living and supporting groups, events and societies streamlining its organization.

Ineke Kalwij | Treasurer

Ineke Kalwij

Ineke was born and raised in The Netherlands and has been working oversees for several years before moving to British Columbia. Educated in water management (The Netherlands and U.S.A), her interests are in the field of protecting our water resources (in particular aquifer protection) and sustainable water management. She is proud owner of KWD, a water consulting firm which specializes in hydrogeology, water management, and awareness building and education. She contributes (as member) to sustainability committees (City of Coquitlam, BC Water & Waste Association), and reaches out to schools and communities regarding water resources protection & sustainability.

Noud de Rover | Director of Technology

In 2014 Noud Moved from Utrecht to Port Moody and now lives in Burnaby North. Noud is running a website development and SEO company called Data Roots.

One of the most interesting aspects about his job is that he is able to work with a large variety of business industries and help his clients to be more successful online.

In his spare time Noud likes to enjoy the stunning outdoors that Vancouver has to offer. He loves to ride his bicycle, go hiking or paddling.

Michael Smits | Director of Memberships

Michael Smits

Michael was born and raised in Den Bosch, but has worked and lived mostly abroad after his degree in Management and Applied Engineering. From Australia, Canada, USA and Western Europe, with positions in Marketing, IT, Finance and Telecom, to Afghanistan, Indonesia and Tajikistan, where he lead humanitarian and human-rights programs.

Recent years, Michael’s dedicated himself to helping others more holistically. He’s founded boutique branding and consultancy firm PH5VE and social innovation organization Metamorphany Changemakers — committed to help find sustainable solutions for societal challenges and the SDGs.

He’s also co-founder of STUDIO.WHY and the Dutch Design.School — training and coaching people and organizations worldwide on human-centred leadership, entrepreneurship and innovation by means of ‘Dutch Design.Thinking’.

He returned back to Canada with his wife and three children in March 2018. As avid travellers, they love Vancouver and BC, and grab every opportunity to enjoy the outdoors.

Remy Smit | Director of social media engagement

Remy Smit

Remy grew up close to Amsterdam in a town called Nieuw-Vennep. After completing his degree in Sports Marketing, he moved to Dallas, TX in 2010. There he completed his MBA and started his career in advertising. In 2017 he got the chance to start his own IT company. This endeavor brought him to Vancouver in 2018

Remy runs Strada Networks, a provider of data storage and networking solutions, together with his younger brother where Remy focuses on business development and marketing. In 2019 they started a side business named Damsco Stroopwafels. Damsco serves freshly baked stroopwafels to the Greater Vancouver area.

Besides helping people start businesses, Remy is an avid soccer fan and enjoys both watching and playing. He also enjoys traveling to new places, photography, and architecture.

Laure van Ravensberg | Director of social media engagement

Laure van Ravensberg

In June 2020, during the pandemic, Laure moved from Amsterdam to Yaletown, Vancouver to start a new adventure. She joined the DBC in October 2020 .

Laure is a senior digital marketing manager with her fields of expertise in digital marketing and analytics. She got a job through her connections at The Dutch Business Club and is now leading Digital Analytics at Flywheel Digital (!

Laure also leads a Women In Analytics  community in the Netherlands where she organised events in collaboration with Google, Philips and many more.

When she’s not working, you can mostly find Laure at the kickboxing gym (Lions MMA) or doing an outdoor activity like hiking!
