About the Dutch Business Club

Meet Our Board Members

Our board members are business owners, freelancers, artists, and coworkers of the Dutch Consulate in Vancouver. They volunteer their time to organize events for the Dutch business community.

We currently have positions available in our board and welcome you to apply if you are interested. We are also looking for volunteers who can help us during our events. Volunteer work can easily be combined with your current job and does not require much time.

TJ Weidema

TJ was born in Delft and moved to Canada in 1998 with his Canadian wife and two children. With a degree in sport management he opened his own sport club in the Netherlands and later became a general manager for a large chain of clubs. Having to start all over again in Canada, he is now Business Development Manager for 3H Properties.

In his spare time, TJ has been on many boards in the Netherlands as well as in Canada for several associations. He has a passion for active life styles, healthy living and supporting groups, events and societies streamlining its organization.

Hoi-Leung Chiu | Director of Online Marketing


Chiu (as he goes by his last name) was born in Zwolle from Chinese immigrant parents, but grew up in ‘s-Hertogenbosch. He attended Tilburg University and has a Master’s degree in Information Systems. Chiu volunteered a lot during his student years. Examples were introduction camps for first-year students at the Economic Faculty, several committees at his student rowing club and he has served as President of the Information Systems club.

After graduating, Chiu started to work as a functional ERP consultant, specialized in the financial capabilities of SAP software. First few years were with a boutique consulting firm in the Netherlands (Solution Partners, now called CIBER). Main customers were Philips Consumer Electronics and Philips Lighting. Later Chiu worked as a contractor for HEMA and Philips Medical Systems, for which he implemented the system in South Africa and Mexico. It was in Mexico City that Chiu joined the company SAP. After 10 years of Mexico, Chiu moved with his family to Vancouver in 2011. He made the change from service delivery to the presales group just a couple of years ago. These days Chiu works as a Customer Solution Director in Western Canada and helps his customers in the Oil & Gas and Public Sector industries to transform into intelligent enterprises.

Chiu lives with his wife Maria and two teenage sons. He enjoys running, hiking, skiing, and when the world permits: also traveling and discover new parts of the world.

Ineke Kalwij | Treasurer

Ineke Kalwij

Ineke was born and raised in The Netherlands and has been working oversees for several years before moving to British Columbia. Educated in water management (The Netherlands and U.S.A), her interests are in the field of protecting our water resources (in particular aquifer protection) and sustainable water management. She is proud owner of KWD, a water consulting firm which specializes in hydrogeology, water management, and awareness building and education. She contributes (as member) to sustainability committees (City of Coquitlam, BC Water & Waste Association), and reaches out to schools and communities regarding water resources protection & sustainability.

Noud de Rover | Director of Technology

In 2014 Noud Moved from Utrecht to Port Moody and now lives in Burnaby North. Noud is running a website development and SEO company called Data Roots.

One of the most interesting aspects about his job is that he is able to work with a large variety of business industries and help his clients to be more successful online.

In his spare time Noud likes to enjoy the stunning outdoors that Vancouver has to offer. He loves to ride his bicycle, go hiking or paddling.

Merel van den Bergh | Director of Memberships

Merel van den Bergh

Merel is originally from Zoetermeer, and spend her university days in Deventer. As soon as she could Merel travelled all around the world.

She ran different hotels in New Zealand, The Channel Islands and Cambodia before moving to Vancouver in 2017.

She is now part of a small start-up business that does recruitment in the mining industry, where she is in charge of business development and candidate relations.

Merel enjoys exploring BC, and in the summer goes camping every weekend with her partner Rob. In addition, she loves socializing, kayaking and playing board games.
