Meet our current board members

Tjerk Weidema

TJ (Tjerk) Weidema / President

TJ was born in Delft and moved to Canada in 1998 with his Canadian wife and two children. With a degree in sport management he opened his own sport club in the Netherlands and later became a general manager for a large chain of clubs. Having to start all over again in Canada, he now has his own consulting firm, appropriately named Weidema Consulting, helping small and medium sized businesses improve their sales structures, providing sales training and coaching. Together with a business partner he is also active in the field of business mergers and acquisitions.

In his spare time, TJ has been on board of Directors in the Netherlands as well as in Canada for many different associations. He has a passion for active life styles, healthy living and supporting groups, events and societies streamlining their organizations. If you can’t find him, he is probably hiking the mountains or riding his adventure bike.

Ineke Kalwij

Ineke Kalwij / Director at Large (Treasurer and Secretary Support)

Ineke was born and raised in The Netherlands and has been working oversees for several years before moving to British Columbia. Educated in water management (The Netherlands and U.S.A), her interests are in the field of protecting our water resources (in particular aquifer protection) and sustainable water management. She is proud owner of KWD, a water consulting firm which specializes in hydrogeology, water management, and awareness building and education. She contributes (as member) to sustainability committees (City of Coquitlam, BC Water & Waste Association), and reaches out to schools and communities regarding water resources protection & sustainability.

Noud de Rover

Noud de Rover / Director at Large (Web Development and IT Support)

In 2014 Noud Moved from Utrecht to Port Moody and now lives in North Burnaby. Noud is running a website development and SEO company called DataRoots Business Solutions Inc.

One of the most interesting aspects about his job is that he is able to work with a large variety of business industries and help his clients to be more successful online.

In his spare time Noud likes to enjoy the stunning outdoors that Vancouver has to offer. He loves to ride his bicycle, go hiking or paddling.

Peter van Engelen

Peter van Engelen / Treasurer

Peter grew up in Europe where he was educated in England and the Netherlands and learned to speak four languages. He came to Canada to study Economics at UBC and then embarked on a career in banking, finance and subsequently financial planning and accounting, that has spanned over three decades. In addition to his master’s degree in business administration, he is both a Certified Financial Planner and a Chartered Professional Accountant. His last position was as CFO of a manufacturing entity that brought revolutionary technology to the global construction industry.

He is treasurer of a micro-board and presently sits on the board of directors of a large charitable organisation in the Lower Mainland.

In his spare time, you will either find him on the golf course or the ski hill, but his passion lies in travelling the world or wandering around Greater Vancouver with his camera in search of an elusive national geographic type “wall hanger”.

Jaap Siekman

Jaap Siekman / Secretary

Jaap is a Business Coach in Operational & Organizational Change.

With 30 years of experience in Engineering & Operations, Jaap helps mostly Blue-Collar business owners change their Organizational Structure, Management Practices and Work Processes. Results include vastly improved Operational Efficiencies, Retention, reduced Stress, improved work-life balance for the owner, and, for older owners, an improved Value & Sellability of the business.

Jaap is married, has 2 young-adult aged children. He stays active by going to the gym, fencing, running & kayaking, he plays drums & djembe, and is an avid reader. He has served as volunteer Treasurer for community organizations and is a volunteer Advisor with Catalyste+ working with entrepreneurs & community organizations in developing countries and with Canada’s First Nations.

Steven Smit

Steven Smit / Director of Marketing

Steven was born in Breda and kicked off his Canadian adventure as an exchange student in ’94. He liked it so much that he decided to make it his home.
He’s lived in various parts of Alberta and British Columbia, but he’s been calling Langley home since 2007.

He holds a diploma in Mechanical Engineering Technology from B.C.I.T. and serves as General Manager for Air-Way Canada, a hydraulic hose and fittings company based in Langley. On the side, he runs his own business, SDS Industries, collaborating with startups and established businesses to promote the commercialization of vertical farming equipment.

In his spare time, Steven enjoys golfing, cycling, fishing and traveling.

Richard van Vloten

Richard van Vloten / Director at Large (Event Support)

Richard was born in Vancouver. A first generation Canadian with his family {cousins ,uncles and Aunts} all residing in the Netherlands. He graduated from UBC with a degree in Marine Biology and spent several years as a field biologist. He then spent 30 years as the Manager of the Supply chain management group for one of the world’s largest engineering, procurement and construction firms. Presently he is a business development and operations consultant where he provides Business Development and Operational Consultancy to assist in the further development of a group of companies and participates in the growth of the companies allowing them to expand and be one of the largest providers of equipment, rubber lined piping, fabrications, parts and maintenance spares to mineral processors, pulp & paper, power generation, oil and gas and aggregate plants throughout Canada and the Western US.

In his spare time he was a partner in a company that utilized Dragon boating and outrigging as effective team building vehicles and was one of the top Dragon boat Event and Festival organizers in Western North America.

He is a competitive Dragon boat coach and has paddled on National and world championship winning teams. He presently races Outrigger canoes and is a director of the Canadian International Dragonboat festival society.
